SERVICE TRANSPORT

The routes, stops and timetables of robot buses can be planned flexibly, which improves the accessibility of service transport to the aged and people with reduced mobility, among others. Service is also improved when drivers can be released for service tasks.

FOR THE BENEFIT OF SENIOR CITIZENS AND PERSONS WITH REDUCED MOBILITY

There are more than 0.9 million people aged over 65 in Finland. By 2040, they will number more than 1.5 million, a significant part of our population. Senior citizens often have reduced mobility, and public transport does not consequently serve them in the best way possible.

With route-based robot bus solutions, seniors have access to health services, errands and meeting their friends. In addition to senior citizens, service transport with a robot bus is suited to persons with reduced mobility or sensory function and schoolchildren, for example.

One of the benefits of robot buses is the sense of security. The ride is slower and more stable.

On board the bus is a safety driver who does not steer the bus, but assists the passengers in boarding and leaving the bus, assists in the use of seat belts and supports and guides the passengers whenever necessary.

SOLUTION BASED ON THE CUSTOMER NEED

In planning routes, we always take into account the traffic and road system of the area, as well as the service points that customers would like to visit: grocery shops, cafeterias, restaurants, pharmacies, libraries, health centres, etc.  Thanks to regular route-based service, it is easy for the customers to plan their travel.

The customers’ needs are always taken into consideration in the selection of robot vehicles for service transport. The vehicles have features that are particularly suitable for service transport, such as sliding doors, low steps, seat belts and a stable and low speed. A robot bus always stops at the side of the road.

The level of autonomous driving in service transport is L3, so there is always a safety driver to assist the passengers aboard the bus. In addition to vehicle-specific requirements, particular attention is paid to customer service and its special features in service traffic in the training of safety drivers.

An unprejudiced solution was found for senior citizens in Lahti

In Lahti, a Remoted robot bus transported senior citizens to services with the assistance of a safety driver.
