Campus transportation in Kuopio

In Kuopio, the aim was to investigate the suitability of robot buses for the Savilahti campus area.

The six-month trial aimed to investigate the suitability of robot buses for traffic in the extensive Savilahti campus area. Remoted's 8- and 12-seater robot buses traveled from the new parking facility in Sarastuskaari via Savo Vocational College and KPY Novapolis to the Snellmania building of the University of Eastern Finland. The route was 1.5 kilometers long, and there were five stops along the route. There were approximately 500 passengers per month. The 8-seater vehicle also had space for a wheelchair and a stroller. The city of Kuopio held a naming competition, as a result of which the robot buses were named Välkky.

The small robot buses are excellently suited for campus transportation. In addition to transporting people, the buses can also serve small logistics tasks, serving campus companies and organizations.
